Before the Reduction Mammoplasty
  1. Make sure you have talked with the plastic surgeon in detail and you are well informed. 
  2. You are required to quit smoking 1-2 weeks before the operation.
  3. Be attentive to do walking exercises at a fast pace and do physical exercises during the 15 days period prior to your operation. It will be of help to you with regards to the anaesthesia.
  4. The excess breast skin is removed during this operation.
  5. You can have your operation at least 6 months before your breast feeding period.
  6. Some scars will occur depending on the method of incision performed. Scars will be barely visible one year after the operation. However, these scars will not vanish entirely. It's not possible to carry out an operation without incision for any surgical operation, as well as for any plastic surgery. (Detailed information is provided in the scars section)
  7. An operation scar will occur in the reduction mammoplasty depending on your age and breast characteristics. It has a pinkish red colour in the early stages. Later on it will acquire your skin colour. It will be seen like a mark caused by the scratching of a nail. 
  8. Scars will become barely visible in 6-12 months.
  9. The operation takes between 2,5 and 4 hours with general anaesthesia and 1 day is spent in the hospital.
  10. You will have drains when you come to your patient's room. These drains are put into your skin as a precautionary measure in order to prevent fluid accumulation in your breasts. They will be removed by your doctor during your examinations.
  11. You can take a bath one week after the operation. You will be informed about swimming and bathing during your examinations. 
  12. Your doctor will evaluate your mammography and breast ultrasound examinations prior to the operation.
  13. Breastfeeding varies depending on the method of operation. In case you have a planned pregnancy, please share this information with your doctor.
  14. Many women of normal breast size are unable to breast-feed. Do not postpone your operation in order to breast-feed. Your breasts will enlarge more following the childbirth.
  15. Your doctor will determine the suitable method for you to breast-feed. Don't postpone your quality of living, if it's suitable for your breasts. (In our website, you can read problems regarding breasts which are larger than normal).
  16. Swellings and oedemas in your breasts are normal for the first 10 days. It can take 6-8 weeks. 
  17. You can start driving after a week.
  18. For the first week, you can have pain while moving your arms. It's normal.
  19. Avoid lifting heavy things for the first 3 weeks.
  20. If you have a child at home, our surgeon will give you the necessary advices during your examination and upon your discharge from the hospital.
  21. You can start running 4 weeks after the operation. Please consult your doctor beforehand.
  22. You can start doing intensive exercises (tennis, volleyball etc.) 2 months after the operation. Please start doing such exercises after receiving uour doctor's approval.
  23. Insensitiveness is normal for the first months.
  24. Avoid sexual intercourse for a few weeks.
  25. Each doctor will make a different decision regarding operation during the menstrual periods. Please ask directly to the doctor who is to perform your surgery.
  26. In case you have any health issues and are on medication, share such information with your doctor prior to the operation.
  27. Don't postpone your anaesthesia examinations to the last minute.
  28. During the resting period you are to stay at home, use the drugs prescribed to you as required. 
  29. Don't be too lazy to take a bath. Take care of your personal hygiene after you are allowed to take a bath.  This will prevent any infection around the incision area.
  30. While travelling, don't force yourself to carry your luggage. Ask for help instead.
  31. You will have some hardness and tenseness in your skin since you just had a surgery. Prefer clothes which are worn easily. For instance, avoid wearing a tight t-shirt. Upon your discharge from the hospital, we recommend you to wear clothes such as shirts which are not tight in the armpit and can be worn without the need to raise your arms up in the air.
  32. Movements of arms will limit you for the first days. These days are the days you won't remember in the coming days while you are walking around with your beautiful-light breasts.
  33. Persons who had a reduction mammoplasty are always happy with looking in the mirror.  You too will be able to walk at a fast pace, view yourself slim in the mirror and chose your clothes with pleasure.
  34. Consult your doctor for the medication you will be on, activities you will be involved in etc. following the operation. Even such matters may seem unimportant to you, don't forget to ask about these.
  35. The best cure to every illness is the resting period. It's important that your rest and not tire yourself out. You should continue your life without tiring yourself out.
  36. Light-coloured clothes will protect you against solar rays. While swimming, protect yourself against solar rays as stated by the specialists, as well as your surgeon.
